TO HELP with promoting the restoration of the 14 Locks Canal Centre on the Monmouthshire Canal an event has been organised for this week-end.

Newport Amateur Radio Society members have erected their radio station at the centre, to broadcast tomorrow (Saturday) as part of a Waterways on Air event, Alan Tilbury tells us.

The temporary mast was installed at Rogerstone by the lock flight, on the outskirts of Newport, with the public being offered the use of walkie-talkies.

Work on the restoration of the 14 locks has been progressing for many years, but being cut-off, has not had the support that is awarded to other restorations.  The museum too get little support, with very few exhibits, being open only in the summer months
