A LOCAL man at Berkhamsted was incensed at Canal & River Trust spending £86,000 on repairing just 400 metres of towpath.

John Battye questioned the amount of public money spent on the repair to the towpath of the Grand Union Canal, money that he feels has been  wasted, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Ridiculous waste of money

He pointed out to CaRT that it equated to £200 a metre, and told that  'Spending £86,000 on 400 metres of towpath to my mind is a ridiculous waste of public money'.

But a CaRT spokesman stated that it took longer due to the small size of the path and low bridges.
