Two boat fires

Published: Thursday, 21 March 2013

TWO boats were on fire at Sutton Stop on the junction of the Coventry and Oxford canals early this Thursday morning.

One was a narrowboat and the other a plastic one, with fire crews from two stations alert in the early hours around 2am, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Started intentionally

The police are investigating the fires as both boats were unoccupied and so the fire could have been started intentionally.

Sutton Stop is no stranger to boat fires as the one in the narrowboatworld picture was burnt out whilst moored on the Coventry Canal, the photograph being used in fact by West Midlands Fire Brigade in a safety poster.  The condition of the boats burnt this morning is not known.
