Hydro power for Bath

BATH and West Community Energy (BWCE) want to construct a hydro power plant to take advantage of the Avon in the city.

This will be at Western Island where the Kennet & Avon Canal drops down to the river, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Lease land

The company has now agreed to lease land by the Avon for the installation.

The £1 million hydro electric station is expected to be capable of generating 300kW of electricity, estimated at enough to power 250 homes.

It is expected the station will be producing electricity by the end of next year.
