IWA to fund Northampton Arm

AN AGREEMENT has been reached between the Northampton Branch of the Inland Waterways Association and Canal & River Trust to maintain the Northampton Arm.
The agreement was reached this week, with the local newspaper reporting that the Branch will use IWA funds to carry out litter picks, cut hedges back and complete paintwork along the Arm, together with the help of volunteers from the Friends of Becket's Park, Alan Tilbury reveals.
Always open
The aim is to make sure the Arm—that was closed last year through drought—will always remain open.
The Northampton Arm is the link between the Grand Union Canal and the Nene, with 17 narrow locks and around five miles of waterway that suffers from reed infestation.
