Another canal breach

ANOTHER canal has breached, but this time no worry for the Canal & River Trust as it is the Grand Western Canal owned by Devon County Council.

The canal breached this morning (Thursday) near its terminus at Tiverton, following heavy rain yesterday, boater 'Adrian' tells us.

Evacuated

This affected houses, with 20 families having to be evacuated from their homes. spending the night in a local village hall.

Engineers are working to attempt to stabilise the waterway.

The Grand Western Canal at present is only 11 miles long, is lockless, and has a few narrowboats moored, including one that offers horse pulled trips.
