Marina boaters thrown out

THE berth holders at the Fish and Duck Marina in Little Thetford on the River Great Ouse have been told they will all have to leave if plans are passed to extend the number of berths.

Its owners have submitted plans to extend the marina from its present capacity of 75 berths, but what is alarming resident moorers is that they have also been told that they will not be allowed back on such a permanent basis when it opens again, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Nowhere to go

Some of the moorers are liveaboards, who owing to the scarcity of residential berths in the area, have nowhere to go once they have to leave.

The reason for its closure according to its owners James and Davina Harvey, is that the jetties are starting to rot, and  the marina is in need of investment, as there are health and safety risks.

Double the number of boats

They also told that the way the berths are laid out parallel to the bank is a waste, with 'finger' jetties more efficient, so a complete revamp would increase the area to allow double the number of boats.

The decision on the plans are expected later this year.
