Grounded on the Trent

A BOAT was grounded on the Trent at Gunthorpe earlier this week, with all attempts at getting off the bottom in vain.

It is understood that the Americans on board had steered the narrowboat, which the family had hired, too close to the bank going rather fast downstream, and it had become completely grounded, Alan Tilbury tells us.

It is not known if they knew about attempting to reverse off, or using the weight of the nine people on board to release the boat, or had simply tried to power off forward, but it needed a search rescue team to use its boats to pull the narrowboat free,

It was Watersafe UK, on a training exercise on the river at the time that came to the rescue, using three inflatable rescue boats to pull the narrowboat into deeper water.
