New bridge over Thames

Published: Monday, 29 October 2012

THE two temporary crossings of the Thames at Walton are at last in the process of being replaced, by a new bridge.

At a cost of £32 millions, it is expected that the new road bridge, (photograph by Will Harding) that will link Walton and Shepperton, will be in service by the summer of next year, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Recession

It was four years ago that the plans for the bridge were approved, but the recession caused the delay whilst funds were made available to build the bridge that will replace the temporary ones which take around 34,000 vehicles a day.

The temporary bridges will be removed once the new one is open for traffic.
