Pollution stops angling

THE pollution to the Erewash Canal, reported in narrowboatworld, has stopped the National Angling Match taking place.

The big match was due to take place on the 13th October, but the canal is badly polluted with chemicals that entered the water after a fire at Stanton Iron Works.

Killing fish

This has caused a reduction in oxygen levels, killing fish, and so is not suitable for such an important match.

As no alternative venue was arranged, the match has been cancelled for this year, so will not take place now until 2013.
