Short sightedness

I am very disappointed at the short sightedness of the boaters who have complained about the Canal & River Trust Appeal, writes Belinda Davenport.

As a boater myself, I suggested to CaRT to set up the appeal so that those who use the towpaths that don't pay for it, but enjoy using it would have the opportunity to contribute towards its repair.

The appeal wasn't aimed at boaters as we all have paid with our licences and mooring fees. The more money that is donated from other users, the less likely boaters will have to pay so instead of knocking the appeal, get behind it!

It was important to act quickly and well done to the team as they did respond quickly and it has already raised a reasonable sum of money, albeit a fraction of what will be needed.

Belinda, of Canal & River Trust—North Wales & Borders, who is the owner of Davenports Farm Shop, Florists & Tea Rooms at Bartington, Northwich, supplied the 'before' and dramatic 'after' photographs.
