Having read Adrian Stott's comment with regard to leaving lock gates open I have to wonder if this was the boater I once had the misfortune to follow through all of the locks on the Grand Union Canal, and beyond, the boater that had exited each and every lock without closing the gates?

Regardless, any who follow this practice may wish to know that this normally polite lady refers to them as being nothing more than lazy, arrogant ar...., as whichever way you look at this they leave others to do their work for them!
