Draining the Oxford

WITH the season about to start amid a raft of proposed restrictions on the southern waterways designed to maintain cruising for as long as possible, who in their right mind in British Waterways gave Cherwell District Council the okay to grant planning permission for the two marinas at Cropredy asks Kevin McNiff.

Is there a secret feed to Boddington, Clattercote and Wormleighton reservoirs that we don't know about? (Current British Waterways data shows 39% holding for February 2012.)

Catastrophic

If they actually dig the big one North of Cropredy and fill it, the effects on the pounds above Broadmoor will be catastrophic given the low levels currently in these areas.

Is there is a possibility of refusing to allow them to cut the entrance to the marinas? There may yet be hope since many hire boaters who actually use the canals may be driven away while the floating cottage brigade sit on the silt. Still each cottage represents revenue to British Waterways doesn't it?
