Email: 100% is achievable

Published: Wednesday, 15 February 2012

I must complain about the statement by Mike Todd this morning that 100% occupancy of berths at marinas is unachievable, and that when a space becomes vacant there will always be a period of vacancy as the space is advertised, let and the new tenant takes it up.

A fellow boater had to wait many months to get a berth at Sawley Marina about six years ago, as all were taken, and he was then allowed on special moorings outside the actual marina for a short while as a berth was becoming available.  The marina itself was 100% occupied.

And I do not see how boaters being away during the summer months make any difference whatsoever, the berth is still being paid for.

Most marinas have such as visitor moorings, DIY moorings where a prospective moorer can wait until a berth is empty.
