Email: BWML occupancy

Published: Monday, 13 February 2012

After reading the piece from Philip Ridal, I can't help but comment about his occupancy figure of BWML marinas.

An 84% occupancy would horrify the heck out of me! That's an average!

At the risk of stating the, er, obvious, there will therefore be some marinas with more and some with less. Averages are poor indicators as they can cover up large holes. So that's why Philip uses one, I suspect.

Of course, he could've put all their numbers up on narrowboatworld, I don't think the servers would wince overly.

Whatever the full story, I personally would want to know how on earth any empty berths can be excused? For goodness sake, this is morally bankrupt in just about every respect.

BWML cannot possibly escape its tie with British Waterways and so cannot possibly be divorced from the policy of reducing on-line mooring, short of total independence!

Get these canal and river marina berths full! Start by ditching the silly categories. They alone were easily enough to keep us out of Sawley.

I'm retired! On what planet am I going to let BWML fix the format of my marina and house life for me? If planning is required  BWML must go get it.

Next, get the prices down. Meanwhile though, can I hear Allan Richards at work?  Wouldn't be surprised...
