Plenty of New Year boats

THOUGH there was a lack of boats over the Christmas period, the New Year saw a marked difference.

In case anyone is thinking that Canal & River Trust need not open the canals next Christmas/New Year, I can tell you that there are lots of people boating at the moment, writes John Slee.

Although Christmas Day may have been quiet, there are plenty of boats on the move. There are lots of boats on the move on the South Oxford Canal—six going South when we were going North on one day.

This is a necessary window of opportunity to pass the next tranche of winter stoppages so that we can continue cruising through the winter. We are grateful that British Waterways have consulted when they plan their winter works.

Phil of Nb Fly Fifer, who complained about the lack of boats over Christmas, tells us 'more boaters are now coming out to play up here on the Llangollen than there were over the festive Christmans week.
