Why are we waiting?

IT WAS in early August that the new Long Horse Bridge was to be lifted into position over the Trent at Derwent Mouth, then opened shortly after.

It is now two months later, but still no official intimation when it will be opened, though it was lifted into position a month ago.

May Gurney

Various dates were giving for the lifting, then cancelled, but none have been given for the actual opening by May Gurney, British Waterways preferred contractors.

But unofficially, after many telephone calls to Project Manager Richard, our informant Tony Higgins was told it will still be another month before it is opened, being given the date of 11th November—making it nearly three months overdue.

Though we have no official notice, we have been led to understand that the bridge will be £500,000 over its budget of £1.4 millions.
