A NEW book has been published on the history of the derelict Wilts & Berks Canal that is at present undergoing restoration.

Wilts and Berks Canal Revisited gives the history of the waterway, with 180 photographs contained in 128 pages, With Rob Jones, a branch chairman  of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust remarking:

"We hope it will inspire even more people to learn about this formerly forgotten piece of local history, and the important part it played in the development of this town.

"Many residents probably live near or even on top of some of the remains, or travel over them. Most probably they do so without realising what lies a short distance beneath their feet.

Campaigning

Though much of the original line of the canal has been lost, the trust is still working and campaigning for its eventual restoration.

Compiled by Doug Small, Wilts & Berks Canal Revisited, is  published by The History Press Ltd.
