IT SEEMS that portholes in narrowboats, regarded as the ultimate deterrent for thieves, are not so safe after all.

A boat moored opposite the Boathouse near Braunston Turn was broken into by having its screws removed from its portholes for the thief/thieves to gain entry.

It was a rear porthole that was entered, and a laptop and other items stolen.

This is the latest in a long line of boats being broken into in the area, which as previously reported, is having a detrimental effect on the businesses in Braunston.
