A SECTION OF THE RAILWAY VIADUCT 23 has fallen into Calder & Hebble Navigation.
This has closed both the navigation and towpath, Keith Gudgin reports.
Fallen into navigation
A section of the parapet at Cooper Bridge Viaduct 23, has fallen into the Calder & Hebble Navigation below.
Network Rail is currently assessing the viaduct, but are currently unable to see where the stone has landed in the water, that can have created dangerous underwater obstructions.
As a precaution, Canal & River Trust have closed this section of the navigation, along with the towpath below the viaduct.
Remains in force
Until the trust can assess the safety of boats and pedestrians passing through, and not realising if the remaining parapet is safe, the stoppage remains in force.
Latest—Network Rail have updated that the viaduct is at further risk of collapse.
