IT WAS A VEHICLE STRIKE ON ROAD BARRIERS that stopped the navigation on the Middlewich Branch.

That occurred yesterday, Keith Gudgin reports.

This was at Nanney's Bridge (8) with road barriers installed to prevent road traffic from accessing the bridge, and diversion routes were put in place. These have since been moved.

But until these barriers are reinstated, both the towpath and navigation will remain closed for safety reasons, meaning there is no access for boats on this branch of the Grand Union Canal.

Rochdale Canal

Water levels between Lock 25 and Lock 26 on the Rochdale Canal have recovered overnight to allow navigation.

This pound was closed as water levels were to low for navigation yesterday, Thursday.
