A PARTLY BUILT WHARF has been restored on the Shrewsbury & Newport Canal.
The waterway undergoing restoration Janet Friend reports.
Work by volunteers of the Shrewsbury & Newport Canals Trust took over eight years to complete the restoration.
Thomas Telford
The wharf was part built by the 19th Century engineer Thomas Telford, with the now disused waterway playing an important in the transport of a variety of mechanise.
Now the site includes a visitor centre and café, but required many tonnes of rubbish and other material to be removed before it could be constructed.
There was a visit of the Duke of Gloucester to the site recently to see the work that had been undertaken.
