THE FIVE DAYS OF VIRTUALLY CONTINUOUS RAIN has made river navigation impossible.
And still more storms are promised.
The canals that have rivers as part of the navigations we are told are non navigable.
The storms bring not only the rain but very strong winds that make it near impossible to get off a lock side and into the lock should it by in the 'wrong' direction.
Flood warnings
As of yesterday, more than 70 flood warnings had been issued across the country by the Met Office.
With the Environment Agency warning that river levels will continue to rise over the coming days as further rain is expected that will increase the risk of more rivers overflowing their banks.
It is certainly not advisable to attempt to cruise. The picture is of the Trent below Derwent Mouth Lock.
