A COLLAPSED CULVERT has been discovered effecting a Staffs & Worcs lock.
This meaning the navigation is closed at Penkridge Lock, (38) Keith Gudgin reports.
The site was attended by engineers with a vie to assess the damage.
Culvert collapsed
At which it was discovered that a significant section of the culvert has collapsed, that had also washed out sections of infill and foundation beneath both the bridge and the nearby cottage.
To prevent further risk to these structures, the void has now been stabilised using specialist concrete, with contractors clearing out the compacted debris in the remaining sections of the culvert.
The trust states that at this stage, a reopening date cannot be confirmed and will depend on the successful installation of a new section of culvert.
