THE DAMAGE TO A LOCK on the Kennet & Avon Canal could mean a long stoppage.
As it has been discovered that there is damage to a gate below the water line, Keith Gudgin reports.
It was on Saturday 17th January that the Burghfield Lock (103) was closed to navigation due to damage.
Detailed inspection
But detailed inspection has discovered part of the gate has broken away and is so severely damaged below the water line, and as a result the trust tells the repairs are not as straightforward as first thought.
This means the lock will most likely have to be dewatered to undertake the work.
And so no definite date of reopening can be given.
