THIS CAN ONLY BE THE sliding rail bridge over the Stainforth & Keadby Canal at Keadby.
Long stoppage
And it will be closed once again as it is just about every week, but this time it looks like being a long stoppage indeed, Keith Gudgin reports.
For it has been discovered that it needs a complete renewal of braking components and also the refitting of wheels which the structure operates on.
A long stoppage will be required as the bridge will be out of action for both canal and rail traffic that will require arranging for alternative rail passage, so repairs will not start until the 12th of January.
We are told the works will hopefully ensure more reliable operation of the structure going forward.
Do not approach
Canal & River Trust advise boaters not to approach or try to moor up close to the structure whilst works are ongoing.
It is not understood why this work was not undertaken during the time of the reconstruction earlier this year, that the picture shows.
