THE DUO 'GRANDEST UNION' is a duo of boating musicians and has launched its debut album.
The band, the Grandest Union, is made up of Timothy Barlow and Patrick Cull.
Records in his boat
Timothy writes the lyrics and Patrick writes, plays and records the music in his boat. The music is also mixed and produced there.
The idea for a band, started with the song ‘Sailing on the canal’ which was produced for a Christmas party we held last year on the Leicester Section, for about fifteen boats and took off from there.
We have tried, through the music, to reflect life on the canals, with a bit of history and a wee bit of poking the bear, that is the trust.
We have no gigs planned at the moment, mainly because the album was launched in early October, we are halfway through a second album and then there is the small matter of getting a band together.
Could start playing live
Since I play and produce the music myself, forming a band was not part of our initial planning. We are hoping that if the album is successful, we could start playing live during the boating season next year.
