THE LINK IS TO CONNECT the Staffs & Worcs Canal with Stafford.
Work has being going on for many years and is now approaching another phase.
Basin being built
This is to connect the waterway, that will be the Stafford Riverway Link, to the Staffs & Worcs at Baswich, near to the offices of River & Canal Rescue, with a basin nearby that is in the process of being built. The picture shows part of the basin under construction.
When completed this basin is expected to hold 10 moorings, with the next phase to build a bridge to carry the existing canal towpath over the entrance to the basin.
This is being helped by the ready mixed concrete from Breedon and a donation of bricks from Ibstock.
Much of the work is being done by volunteers and students from local colleges, especially the bricklaying under the tuition from their tutors.
Cash still needed
But cash is still needed especially for the connection of the link to the canal that will be undertaken by expensive workers from the Canal & River Trust.
To help raise cash a Buy a Brick appeal is being made—www.Stafford-Riverway-Link.co.uk
