THE VAZON SLIDING RAIL BRIDGE on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal, has failed again.
This rail bridge opens by sliding from across the waterway to allow boats to pass, Keith Gudgin reports.
However it is not very reliable as many boaters, us included, have discovered, and often needs an engineer to attend when a safety device clicks out. The picture shows the bridge having a major overall last year.
Certain temperatures
Also it will only operate within certain temperature parameters.
Recently the failures have resulted in long delays for boaters either leaving or approaching the lock on the tidal Trent, where strict times are enforced owing to the tides.
This time Network Rail is telling the structure has failed but are hoping to undertake repair works on Saturday evening to enable reopening of the bridge on Sunday.
