I do not own a narrowboat but wonder if you can include my comments, as a reader of your publication, writes Joan Vardy.

It concerns the Anderton [Boat] Lift that my family and I have travelled all the way from Wakefield to take a ride in the advertised boat that goes up and down the lift with passengers, and have had two attempts to take advantage of it this year to be told it is not working on both times, and this last time even being told the cafe is also closed so could not get either a drink or food.

And now I read it is to be closed all next year too as your article advises, so it looks, like I'm sure many others, can say goodbye to going on the lift, as the way things are going and the number of times it has been closed make it too much of a risk especially if a long journey, and with excited children, who to say the least were disappointed to be let down by not being able to have their ride on the lift.

But what is so annoying that it is not at all helpful by the people who operate it, when they do not tell it is closed on their website, but the website is so convoluted it could be there but unable to find it, but having it closed for two years takes some believing and tells it is a poor company that is in charge of it.
