WHEN MARSH LOCK on the Weaver failed there was no navigation between it and the other waterways.
And with the Anderton Boat Lift also failed boats were completely trapped, Keith Gudgin reports.
But now we are told that at last Canal & River Trust's teams have carried out initial investigations at Marsh Lock to enable boat movements between the Weaver Navigation and other waterways.
May be possible
We are told following the assessment, indications suggest that it may be possible to operate the lock for a single gate manual operation, allowing narrowboats only at this stage to pass through.
The trust 'are working hard' to make these limited lock movements possible, 'before completion of the ongoing works between Bridge 131 and Bridge 133 on the Shropshire Union Canal'. [That is not understood as the Shroppie is miles away and has no connection—Editor.]
Those boaters wishing to use Marsh Lock are advised to contact the North West Customer Service Team on 0303 0404 040 to ensure booking and 'can prioritise communications once we have further details on the date of a planned passage'.
