Take care on the Trent on Saturday

Published: Friday, 25 April 2025

BOATERS ARE WARNED to take care if boating on the Trent between Nottingham and Newark this weekend.

As the Race to the Castle is taking place on Saturday 26th April 2025, Janet Friend reports.

This is a paddleboard race when scores of paddleboarders take to the river to race from the Suspension Bridge at Nottingham to Newark Castle in a 25 miles race.  With a further adventure fleet of paddleboarders on the same route.

Fun and friendly

This is an event that celebrates the strength, strategy and courage a paddler makes when they commit to an ultra distance challenge. R2TC is a fun, friendly, safe and inclusive race open to all paddlers. You can enter by yourself, with family, friends or your SUP Club.

It is not known what happens at the many locks, but boaters on the whole section are warned to be alert and to pull in to the side.

There is a party after the event with a hangover day on the Sunday and demos, tasters, talks, social and fun races.
