One bridge closes and one bridge reopens

SANDFIELD BRIDGE 9 on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal failed yesterday, Saturday.

This was due to a mechanical fault, Keith Gudgin reports.

Another bridge failure the same day was Shirley Draw Bridge on the North Stratford Canal. This being caused by a vehicle strike damaging the barriers. so closing the waterway.

Quick off the mark

But Canal & River Trust were quick off the mark here—the barriers were repaired the same day and the navigation reopened.

This particular bridge has had similar strikes in the past, and is another one that would benefit from a video camera recording movements, as was suggested, but not implemented.
