I AM struggling with my cruising status now that CRT has introduced additional charges for continuous cruisers, writes Alan Baker.
I take a marina berth for the winter months (November to April). Outside of that, I cruise for a month and then take a marina berth for a month. So I have a legitimate berth when I renew my licence, and for the four months in the summer. So—am I a continuous cruise, or not?
Pay for a mooring not used?
That also raises the question of status if I take a gold licence (which I intend to do next year), and are off CRT waters for a period of (say) three months). Does CRT expect me to pay for a mooring that I will not use, and while I will be outside of their jurisdiction?
And what about moving to a new home mooring—do I have to pay for either the old mooring whilst I am in transit, or the one that I am going to and have not reached?
