Pull a Cuckoo to raise funds

Here’s a brilliant way to raise funds for your organisation or your favourite charity—gather a group and pull a narrowboat along the Chesterfield Canal.

Cuckoo1bOnly one left in the world

The boat, Dawn Rose, is 70 feet long and is made of wood. It was built by volunteers from the Chesterfield Canal Trust. These boats were unique to the canal and were sometimes called Cuckoo boats. Dawn Rose is the only Cuckoo boat left in the world.

The Friends of Dawn Rose are organising their annual Sponsored Boat Pull. It will run on every weekend in April. You can either pull the boat from Shireoaks to the Lock Keeper pub at Worksop in the morning or pull it back in the afternoon. Occasionally groups book both sessions.

You pay a £50 fee to the Friends of Dawn Rose and everything else that you raise goes to your chosen good cause.

Cuckoo2The annual Boat Pull has been running since 2016 and :many groups come every year and have made thousands of pounds for their chosen good cause.

Surprisingly easy

Pulling a ten ton boat might sound impossible. In fact, it is surprisingly easy. The Friends will supply harnesses with which two people can pull Dawn Rose very comfortably. Your team can take it in turns. The Friends will steer and manage the boat. As you will be going at walking pace, you can bring friends and family to share in a great day out along this beautiful waterway.
