Sunk boat abandoned

A CRUISER that sank in the Bridgewater Canal was littered with empty beer cans, bottles and rubbish.

The boat was moored at Eccles on the waterway and nearby boaters reported it to the emergency services on Friday, not knowing if anyone was inside, Keith Gudgin reports.

Heavy drinking

The police ascertained there was no one inside by using an underwater camera to inspect the interior and finding it empty, but discovered evidence of heavy drinking.

There were a great many empty beer bottles and empty Carling beer cans littered about, and still a box of Carling beer unopened amongst the rubbish.

As there has been no sign of the owner it is believed he simply abandoned the boat when it started sinking.
