ONCE again Anglo Welsh offers its annual canal boat holiday taster sessions on the inland waterways.

These are on Thursday 2nd June 2022, the first day of the bank holiday weekend celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Anglo2Sessions at four hire bases

Boat holiday operator Anglo Welsh is hosting open days at four of its narrowboat hire bases, offering people the chance to try canal boating for free.

The events, which will run from 10am to 4pm, offer visitors the chance to take a free trip on a skippered day boat, and to find out more about canal boat holidays.

The open days will take place at:

* Wootton Wawen on the Stratford Canal (Henley in Arden, Warwickshire, B95 6BZ)
* Bunbury on the Shropshire Union Canal (Bunbury Locks, Tarporley, (pictured above) Cheshire CW6 9QB)
* Great Haywood on the Trent & Mersey Canal (Mill Lane, Great Haywood, (pictured below) Staffordshire, ST18 0RJ)
* Whixall on the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal (Alders Lane, Whixall, Shropshire SY13 2QS).

Anglo1Sessions on day boats

Emma Lovell, bookings manager for Anglo Welsh, explains:

“We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our open days to enjoy spending time by the water and a free taster session on aboard one of our day boats.  No booking is required and trips will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

“Full tuition is included in our day boat hire package, so it’s a great opportunity for those new to canal boating to get the hang of steering, mooring up and working the locks. All our day boats are equipped with cutlery, crockery, a kettle, fridge, cooker and a toilet.

“Our day boats are suitable for up to 10 passengers. Up to two dogs are welcome on board, but they count as passengers.”

160 boats

Anglo Welsh is one of the largest canal boat hire operators in the UK offering over 160 canal boats for hire from 11 bases across England and Wales, with accommodation for between two and 12 people. Hirers are provided with life jackets on request and boat steering tuition as part of all its packages.

2022 boat hire prices start at £635 for a short break (three or four nights) on a boat for four people, £875 for a week.
