Things may be looking up

WE HAVE just spent two long weekends at Ellesmere going just as far as Hampton Bank and Maestermyne Boats due to being ‘on call' for family commitments. We have never seen so many private boats from far afield on this stretch of the Llangollen with the Ellesmere arm full most days, writes Roger Spurr.

I don't know whether it's the price of diesel, pension release, needing to get away from the politicians, Grexit, Heathrow debate or the BBC's blanket coverage of Glasto.

More attractive?

Or is the standard of the rest of the system making this length of the cut more attractive, you may have a view?

However the standard of boating seemed better than in recent years with nobody seen ‘on the plane' and most generally happy just to chug along giving others time to change course or take a bridge hole first, but there still exists those determined to moor adjacent the winding holes.

I am fairly sure this traffic calming is due to the longer days allowing more cruising time rather than the Spring and Autumn when the rush to Llangollen and back is determined by the onset of early dusk.
