New marina for the Nene

Published: Monday, 29 June 2015

WITH planning permission agreed, work will start this week on a much needed marina for the Nene at Earls Barton.

White Mill Marina is the brain-child of farmers John and Debbie Skinner, with work starting this Wednesday, 1st July, with contractors Land & Water promising completion in just 18 weeks, which means the marina will be up and running by the end of October, giving boaters the opportunity to moor their boats at the new facility in time for the Winter months.

Floating pontoons

The pair are looking forward to the start of their new venture and to welcoming boaters to the marina that will have 141 berths, taking narrowboats, wide beams and cruisers, and being on a river will have floating pontoons to safeguard the craft in case of flooding.

Work on Northamptonshire's newest river side marina on the River Nene will get underway next week Wednesday 1st July, 2015.

Granted last September

Planning permission for the development of White Mills Marina on the River Nene at Earls Barton was granted to farmers John and Debbie Skinner last September, and now the pair are looking forward to its completion with John Skinner telling us:

"We feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to create a much needed purpose built facility on such a beautiful river as the Nene. Land & Water have a proven track record for developing first class marinas, so we know they will create something really special."

Facilities

In addition to the floating pontoons, the new marina will have electricity and water to all berths, Wi-Fi, ladies and gents toilets and showers, laundry room, Elsan disposal facilities, diesel, gas, and pump-out, coal and wood.

There will also be a facilities building including lounge coffee shop and small chandlery.

Jayne Hornsby, Business Development Manager at Land & Water enthused:

"We are absolutely thrilled to be part of the delivery team for White Mills Marina. John and Debbie Skinner clearly believe in the project 100%, for them it is not just a marina they are creating but a legacy that will provide the area with a much needed service and leisure facility."

The development has been welcomed by residents of nearby village Earls Barton, a short walk from White Mills Marina, believing the facility will benefit the village.
