Mick Fitzgibbons certainly hits the nail on the head (Sitting with Nelly) and this explains a whole raft of things.

Is this why the Chinese came up and went down, the Greeks came up and went down, the Romans came up and went down, Great Britain came up and are on the way down.

There is a certain amount of inevitability about things that no matter how many people complain, we are on the way down.

Or—Who is going to get rid of the top people at Canal & River Trust and get a new management in? Because this seems to be the only cure.

Get the man who has learned his trade from the bottom up and you will have a more realistic person at the top then.

But he will have to have balls of steel.
