Deterioration blamed for lock failure

AT LAST Canal & River Trust have blamed lack of maintenance as the reason for a lock failure on the Staffs & Worcs at Kinver.

It states that Gothersley Lock (14) is closed due to 'recent damage and increased deterioration' (our italics) the top end gate has unfortunately failed and requires replacement, Keith Gudgin tells us.

To keep the navigation open the Trust has undertaken short term repairs while a replacement part is made. then it will close the waterway for a week in March whilst a complete repair is undertaken.

Another

The Kennet & Avon Canal is another suffering problems, this time at Avoncliff Aqueduct, with the waterway closed to carry out investigation works into settlement of a section of waterway wall between Meadows Bridge and the aqueduct.

The Trust tells us that the waterway will be closed on Tuesday 20th  January and Monday 16th February.
