Interest-filled Open Days

IT WILL certainly be an interest-filled National Heritage Open Days weekend organised by the Wey & Arun Canal Trust, that will include an airfield museum, an archaeological dig and a guided walk.

Scheduled for the 13th and 14th of September, the Saturday will see a special opening of the Reg Day Memorial Museum at Dunsfold Park (11am-2pm). The museum tells the history of Dunsfold airfield since it was built in 1942. Booking essential because of limited capacity.

Guided walk

Then from 2.30pm on Sunday 14th September the Wey & Arun Canal Trust offers a free guided walk, commencing from the Gunpowder Store at Stonebridge Wharf, Shalford, along the course of the canal to the former Bramley Wharf. In the course of the walk there will be scope to inspect excavations likely to reveal part of the buried structure of Tanyard Lock, Gosden Meadow.

The distance is one and half miles of a two hours hour duration. Free car parking at Broadford Business Park, Shalford GU4 8EP (behind Parrot Inn, on the A248).

Public viewing

The archaeological dig site will be open for public viewing on Sunday, 14th September.
