CaRT complaints confirmed

Published: Thursday, 24 July 2014

DESPITE Canal & River Trust (CaRT) stating that it is only aware of one complaint being made against it, the Charity Commission for England and Wales has confirmed that it has opened four complaints, writes Allan Richards.

Third most complaints

A month ago, narrowboatworld revealed that, out of more than 150,000 charities, CaRT is the third most complained about, according to the Charity Commission. In the 12 months up to 31st March 2014 the Charity Commission acted upon four complaints against the Trust.

Following the article, the Trust has maintained that it was only aware of one complaint but refused to give details.

Confirmed

However, the Charity Commission has confirmed that it did, indeed, open four complaints against the Trust last year, two of them related to Network Access Agreements and the other two related to CaRT's independence from government.

Full details of the complaints are awaited from the Charity Commission.
