Rotten bridge and leaning tree close canals

YESTERDAY, Wednesday 27th, saw two canal closures.

These were the Huddersfield Narrow and Coventry canals.

The Coventry was closed at Grendon Road Bridge (49) by an extra large tree that was leaning right over the waterway stopping navigation.

The size of the tree means it requires specialist equipment to remove.

This means that it's likely to take longer than usual to undertake its removal with the navigation therefore closed.

Huddersfield Narrow

The Huddersfield Narrow is closed at Lock 27E between Marsden and Slaithwaite owing to a rotten footbridge closing the navigation.

The timber on the tail gate footbridge has rotted so badly it is no longer safe to use until it can be repaired.

Without the bridge it is impossible to get to the offside of the lock, hence its closure.
