Canal closure—but not the trust's fault

THE Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal is closed but it's not the fault of the trust.

An accident on a bridge yesterday, Friday, has closed the navigation after it caused parts of its parapet and wall to fall into the waterway, Keith Gudgin reports.

Crashed

The accident occurred when two vehicles took to the bridge in opposite directions and crashed, with the police involved.

The bridge is between Dimmingsdale Lock (28) and Wightwick Lock (29) above Bratch.

The masonry falling into the canal means it is unsafe for boats that could damage their propellers when passing under, so the navigation is closed.
