Leeds & Liverpool culvert work completed ahead of schedule

THE information is that the work on the culvert on Wigan Flight will be completed this morning.

And completed a week ahead of schedule, Keith Gudgin reports.

This means the flight on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will be available for boaters for the first time since Monday 13th November.

The work taking a month to complete instead of the scheduled five weeks, it opened at 8am this morning.

Llangollen Canal obstruction cleared

The obstruction at New Marton Lock (2) on the, Llangollen Canal has been cleared and this navigation too has been reopened.

The obstruction was discovered on Wednesday of this week, but could not be cleared straight away as a pump was required.

The problem was the obstruction prevented a gate from closing making the lock inoperable.
