Gate obstruction causing problem

THE underwater obstruction at Marton Lock (2) on the Llangollen Canal is causing problems to remove.

The gate will not close, making the lock inoperable and so the navigation is closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Pump required

Dredgers have been brought onto the site in an attempt to clear the obstruction, but a pump is required to dewater the area around the lock so access can be achieved.

Once a pump is on site dredging can commence to clear the mass of silt that has gathered.

It is not yet known of course what is causing the obstruction.
