Another culvert failure closes waterway...

NAVIGATION on the Macclesfield Canal is closed due to a suspected culvert failure.

This is between Kent Green Bridge (87) and Morris Bridge (89), Keith Gudgin reports

Now of course dams are being installed at each side of the failure so the culvert can be examined. This allows a thorough inspection of the possible damage that has occurred.

Scholar Green

The closure is at Scholar Green, just two miles from the junction with the Trent & Mersey Canal at Kidsgrove.

Past such repairs, such as the culvert failure on the Leeds & Liverpool, took over a month to repair from the 11th of October to the 17th of November, so it seems if this one proves to be a failure the Macclesfield will be closed for some time.
