AN UNLUCKY peacock discovered that it could not swim when it landed in the Stratford-on-Avon Canal near the city.
Luckily towpath walkers saw the bird in the canal, where it was struggling in vain to get out, but it was pulled out, Roger Fox tells us.

The RSPCA was then called with Animal Welfare Officer Ben Jones arriving at the scene where he discovered the soggy exotic bird shivering on the towpath.
The peacock was eventually reunited with his owner Elizabeth Quinn from Lapworth, who put her beloved pet in front of the fire to dry out—and let him listen to the radio, which he seems to enjoy!
Luckily the bird had no injuries, but as the banks of the canal are high, it obviously was unable to get out, but being used to people it allowed the strangers to haul him—it was a male—out of the cold water.
