Drunks jumped in waterway

TWO drunk men risked their lives by leaping into the Calder and Hebble Navigation at Brighouse, causing emergency services to respond.

The two had been drinking at a pub in Brighouse, came out and then jumped into the waterway at around midnight, and as they did not reappear the emergency services were called out, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Unable to climb out

Such was their state that they were unable to climb out, but a man passing had helped them out of the water, that then left the emergency services scouring the area, wasting a great deal of time and at great cost as no less than five fire crews were involved together with an ambulance.

A spokesman for one of the crews told it was a silly thing to do, not only risking their own lives but that of others searching the waterway in the dark
